I came across an NPR article referring to moringa as a trendy new superfood. Trendy among whom? I’VE never heard of it, so how could it be trendy?
Living outside of major cities puts me well behind the curve on anything current or trendy. Or maybe it’s just because I’m old.
But being the trendy young mom that I am, it turns out that I’ve been having moringa in my superfood smoothies for about a year now. Here’s the scoop on it.
Moringa is originally sourced from India and is widely used in ayurvedic medicine for balancing kapha and vata. I don’t really know what those things are, but a quick wikipedia search indicates that kapha relates to flatulence and vata relates to lubrication. So…those are important to have in balance.
Moringa looks like a long pea pod, or asparagus, and it’s crushed seeds have proven effects in purifying water because of their antifungal and antibacterial properties. Very cool time-lapse video of that process here.1
Holy Moly. That’s one crazy Before & After pic.
As a supplement moringa is a great source of:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- Omega 3 fatty acids
Moringa is thought to be helpful with conditions including diabetes, rheumatism, venomous bites (yikes!), and in cancer prevention.2
But here’s the GOOOOD Stuff.
I would argue that ED frustrates men and women equally, so pay attention to this one. One research study found that the use of moringa inhibited the function of enzymes linked to ED in rats.3
Rat penises. Fun stuff. That is someone’s JOB.
Parasthesia & Peripheral Neuropathies
Moringa was shown to have some effectiveness in reducing parasthesia and peripheral neuropathy.4 For us lay folk, parasthesia means tingling and numbness (i.e. pins and needles) and peripheral neuropathy causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in the hands or feet. ….
People who experience parasthesias or peripheral neuropathies may include those diagnosed with MS, Lyme disease, Fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, diabetes, and kidney disorders.
Cell Phone Radiation
Did you see the one where the girl wore her phone in her bra and then she had a giant tumor in that exact spot? (If this is true it’s completely tragic and hugely preventable.) As much as we try to ignore it, cell phone radiation is no joke. Results have shown that moringa has helped to modulate the negative effects of chronic cell phone exposure…..on rat testes.5
I’m no doctor, but I can tell you this. There is evidence that moringa will help your man’s junk, and that helps you too.
Are you a moringa-lover? Tell us what it’s done for you in the comments.
